*Now accepting new clients
Starting therapy can be overwhelming and sometimes frightening, and I want to acknowledge the strength and bravery that it takes to try something new. I offer individual counseling for adults and adolescents (age 15+) with a wide range of presenting issues. I serve clients in-person in Mount Vernon and telehealth clients in Washington State.
I practice using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT is all about creating new ways of handling your life’s problems to engage more fully and freely as you build a meaningful life. When we have a problem, it’s our natural drive to solve it. Most often, this works. However, when it doesn’t, it can leave us feeling lost and powerless to life’s challenges. We hope that if we just try hard enough, if we just put in a little more effort, we’re going to figure it out. All the while we miss out on the wonders of life, disconnecting from the people closest to us.
As your therapist, I work hard alongside you to release you from patterns that no longer serve you and develop new ways of viewing and responding to life’s problems. With humor and teamwork, I aim to empower you to live your life aligned with your values to make meaningful change. ACT is a proven evidence-based psychotherapy that has over 3000 published studies showing its effectiveness in treating a wide range of mental health issues with powerful results.
I welcome a diverse clientele as I feel that our differences are often our greatest assets. All are welcome and safe here. I look forward to the prospect of walking alongside you on your journey towards a rich and meaningful life.
About Josh:
I show up as my authentic self with clients and I’m passionate about this work. I bring humor, creativity, and fun into therapy. After all, being a human is hard work, and we deserve to have some fun along the way. I’m an avid outdoorsperson, a cascade-crawling mushroom hunter, and hiker. I love to cook, eat, and have adventures indoors and out.
-
ACT in an outdoor setting takes on a more practical, physical, expressive, and experiential form. Using ACT outdoors we put our feet on the ground, literally. I like to think of outdoor therapy as a therapy field trip where we work together in a new setting to strengthen what we build in the office. We have natural hearts, but sometimes we lose our roots - let’s get outside to reclaim them while working together to reach your goals along the way.
-
Video games and tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) have a special place in therapy as they allow us to try out new things in worlds that are more forgiving. I use games to help clients build social skills, effective goal setting, and develop new ways of doing and being to take into everyday life. To those curious, I have a Switch with a growing library, and I use 5th Edition D&D with modified house rules. Remember, grand adventures are for people of all ages!

Good Faith Estimate: You have a right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" explaining how much your mental health care will cost. *Accepting new clients now!
I am a licensed counselor working with adults and adolescents (ages 13+) offering individual counseling, couples counseling, and parent coaching. Starting counseling can sometimes feel overwhelming and scary, and I recognize that it takes a lot of courage to try something new. I view counseling as a collaborative process where we work together to explore and discover new ways to relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. This starts with building a relationship of trust together. Listening to both the body and the mind, I take an interest in your interpersonal experiences and the larger systems that impact them believing we are often harmed, healed, and transformed through our relationships.
Using an integrative approach to fit each client, I incorporate many theories and modalities in my practice including relational psychodynamic theories, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and developmental and attachment theories. However, research shows that the most significant agent of change in counseling is an authentic relationship between the client and counselor.
This is why I will always strive to show up genuinely with you and attune to your lived experiences, needs, goals, and hopes. In knowing oneself more fully we develop the capacity for meaningful change. I’m here to work alongside you on that journey and look forward to the prospect of partnering with you and seeing if we are a good fit!
About Emily
Before becoming a counselor, I spent 6 years as an elementary school teacher and loved working with students and their families. My classroom ran on strong relationships, humor, and a dash of controlled chaos, all of which have translated into my work as a counselor. A bookworm who thrives on rainy days, you can often find me curled up with a cup of tea and a book. I also have a deep love for the Pacific Northwest and love spending time in the many beautiful places that Washington offers.
