Why intern with us?

At Lighthouse Counseling & Wellness, interns become part of a supportive community, not just a clinic. Being a small private practice, interns will receive a more personalized and intimate experience with tailored supervision and professional development that meets each individual where they’re at. This results in deeper clinical learning, stronger relationships with supervisors, and direct exposure to how a private practice operates behind the scenes. 

As an intern at our site, you can expect:

  • A site that that meets CACREP standards

  • An hour of weekly one-on-one supervision with your supervisor

  • Clinical hours with direct client contact

  • A diverse client caseload tailored to fit your level of experience and areas of interest as much as possible

  • Flexible scheduling with in-person and telehealth opportunities available

  • Support managing clinical records (diagnosing, treatment planning, progress notes, etc.)

  • Viewing recorded sessions and offering direct feedback as needed

  • “Behind the scenes” work: the daily realities of running a private practice

  • Professional Development: $200 budget for professional trainings

  • Marketing: paid for Psychology Today profile and being featured on our website for the duration of your internship

  • One year paid membership to the Washington Mental Health Counselor Association (WMHCA) or other association that better fits your licensure

  • HIPPA compliant google workspace including your own professional email and phone number

  • On call client emergency/crisis consultation as needed during working hours

Our Goals:

  • Help you develop and grow your professional identity

  • Support you in exploring which populations or presenting issues best fit you and your clinical style

  • Be a safe place to process what’s happening between you and the client in-session, including any barriers that are getting in the way of your attunement to your clients.

  • Guide in reflecting on your personal well-being and boundaries as a clinician to prevent burnout and promote self-care.

Requirements & Application Process::

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a Master’s level counseling program

  • Have active student liability insurance by start date

  • Be professional and have a willingness to learn

  • Apply via email to emily@lighthousecw.org by sending your resume, cover letter, and a brief description about your practicum/internship requirements and anticipated start date.

  • Once your application is reviewed, candidates that we feel would be a potential good fit will be called for an interview.

  • After the interview, if it is determined the candidate is a good fit, they will receive a phone call offering the practicum/internship placement and to schedule training days.

  • Interns will then have initial training and orientation to the practice and receive an internship binder that will cover important information and professional expectations for their time throughout the internship.
